Due to the Canada Post strike, shipping of radon tests may be delayed.
“I manage the Saskatchewan Research Council Environmental Analytical Laboratories—a large laboratory facility with 70 employees. Most people are rightly concerned about the environment and the environment is widely encompassing. This includes the water we drink, the soil we grow our food in, and the air we breathe. Our laboratory tests for radon in air. When someone orders a radon test kit from the Lung Association, the test kit is analyzed in our laboratory. Radon exposure in your home's air can cause lung cancer. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in people who do not smoke. Levels of radon in your home can be low or very high, and there is no way to know without testing.
The partnership with The Lung Association has been a great relationship. The Lung Association is dedicated to preserving and enhancing lung health for everyone. Their dedication and commitment have made them very effective at spreading the word about the need to test for radon in our homes.
We have done thousands of radon tests in our laboratory. There are lots of houses on the prairies, and across the entire country, with elevated radon levels and some houses with extremely high levels. To me, it's important to be aware of when I'm exposed to a risk. In the lab, we handle a wide variety of hazardous chemicals and materials. We always don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to keep us safe and reduce our risk of exposure to anything harmful. Why would I want to go home and unknowingly expose myself to something hazardous? Testing your house is simple and easy to do.”
